The Bradford on Avon Area

After urban Salisbury, Bradford is the smallest community in area, and consists of just the town itself, five adjoining parishes, and Limpley Stoke, which juts into former Somerset. It lies at the southern end of Wiltshire's limestone belt. Limestone, and modern imitations, are near universal in the area's buildings.

What distinguishes Bradford, and makes it so attractive, is its setting, perched on its hillside overlooking the river and its great bridge. Of its satellite villages - historically members of the greater Bradford - Winsley, Westwood, and Holt have considerable dormitory populations, while retaining (Holt especially) strong community identities of their own. South Wraxall, Monkton Farleigh, and Limpley Stoke are smaller and their populations more scattered.
